Welcome to Eltville am Rhein

GENERAL INFORMATION  -  ACCOMODATION  -  OLD TOWN - GROUPS

We very much appreciate your interest in our region and our city. The famous Rheingau is a sunny landscape with an extension of 38 kilometers of length along the Rhine River between the cities of Wiesbaden and Lorchhausen. It is well known for its mild climate throughout the year. The Rheingau with its countless vineyards is located on the Northern bank of the Rhine River and therefore is blessed with extensive sunlight all year. It has been a wine-growing region for hundreds of years and is home to the world-famous premium Rheingau Riesling grapes.

For over a thousand years this has been a place where nobility and clergy have settled and created some of the most significant historic monuments in Germany, including the famous former Cistercian Abbey at Eberbach monastery, Eibingen monastery as well as the castles in Johannisberg and Vollrads.

Eltville am Rhein is a special "pearl" of the Rheingau and is well known as "the city of wine, Sekt (sparkling wine) and roses". It is picturesquely situated amid forest, vineyards and the Rhine River. This very historical place and its gently restored old- town quarter is an oasis of peace for wine friends and historians who want to enjoy Eltville's landscape, wine and culture. Worth a visit is the Electors Castle with its walk-in tower, art gallery and Gutenberg memorial. The rose garden around the castle fills with enthusiasm romantic people from all around the world. The magnificient noble estates and aristocratic villas on the river promenade as well as the beautiful Crass Castle, today a hotel and restaurant, are witnesses of Eltville’s historic  significance and wealthy past.
